Description: Howard Ecoworks offers a paid, 40 hour/week green job training program called UpLift. This program runs for 10 months from September to June each year and is aimed at helping adults ages 18+ start a career in the environmental field. Participants will work on conservation and restoration projects such as planting trees, installing or maintaining rain gardens and conservation landscapes, and removing invasive plants from woodlands. They receive industry specific training on safety and tool usage, plant identification and installation techniques and professional development trainings about how to search for jobs effectively. Throughout the program there are industry exposure and networking events where participants meet local environmental employers and learn about potential careers and job openings.

Certifications Earned: Participants earn their Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional - Associate, Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED, OSHA-10, MD Erosion and Sediment Control Responsible Personnel.
Eligibility: Participants must be ages 18 and up, interested in getting a full-time job in the environmental field following the program, be available to work Monday - Friday 7:00AM - 3:30PM, and have reliable transportation to the work location 14270 Burntwoods Rd, Glenwood MD 21738. Participants must also be able to stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds repetitively throughout the day and be able and willing to work outside.
Expected Earnings: $18.00 - $20.00 an hour. Starting salaries can vary widely depending on the industry.

Description: Civic Works’ Remediation and Construction Industry Partnership (RCIP) training program prepares participants for careers in the remediation, infrastructure construction, and utility industries through hands-on training and industry-recognized certifications. Participants receive training in construction safety, hazardous materials handling, environmental remediation, utility construction, and job readiness skills. The program also includes practical hands-on activities, including a lineworker training component designed to simulate real-world job sites. Participants can earn multiple industry-recognized certifications and receive support with job placement and career advancement opportunities upon completion.

Eligibility: Participants must be Maryland residents ages 18 or older who are unemployed or underemployed. No prior experience is required, but applicants should demonstrate interest in the career field.
Expected Earnings: Participants typically earn between $18.00 and $24.00 per hour upon entering the workforce. Wages vary based on experience level, job title, and employer, with opportunities for wage growth and advancement.

Description: Civic Works’ Solar Installer Training Program prepares participants for in-demand careers in the solar and clean energy industry through a mix of classroom instruction, hands-on training, and job site experience. The program begins with job readiness training to help participants build communication, teamwork, and workplace professionalism skills. Participants then complete approximately 96 hours of hands-on solar installation training, including ladder safety, harness use, racking installation, electrical basics, and solar panel mounting, along with on-the-job training opportunities with local solar employers. Civic Works also provides supportive services, including transportation assistance, tools, and employment readiness support. Upon completion, participants are connected directly with solar employers for job placement opportunities in the growing clean energy workforce.

The Electric Vehicle Technician Program is a 16-week pre-apprenticeship program designed to prepare participants for entry-level roles in the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) service and maintenullce industry. Participants gain the technical skills, practical experience, and industry knowledge needed to succeed in a wide range of EV and clean energy careers.

Eligibility: Participants must be between 18 and 50 years of age or older, possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development credential, be able to participate in hybrid learning and hands-on training, demonstrate a commitment to completing the training program and career readiness activities, and be capable of lifting 50 pounds or more.
