Cyber Maryland Transitions to the Maryland Department of Labor, Scaling Workforce Innovation for the AI Era

Baltimore, MD (Tuesday, July 1, 2025) - Cyber Maryland—the state’s workforce initiative in cyber, artificial intelligence (AI), information technology, and related fields—has moved to the Maryland Department of Labor. This marks a new phase of execution after the program’s incubation at the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO). This transition reflects Maryland’s commitment to building a workforce that keeps pace with accelerating change.

Cyber is one of Governor Wes Moore’s lighthouse sector priorities—an area key to Maryland’s economic growth. Accordingly, the state is investing $3 million in Cyber Maryland to expand career pathways in cyber and adjacent fields and provide Maryland’s employers with the skilled cyber workforce they need.

“Cybersecurity and technology are central to Maryland’s critical infrastructure and growth sectors—from health care to banking, and biotechnology to clean energy. We must make sure Maryland has a skilled and agile workforce trained in the latest tools ,” said Maryland Secretary of Labor Portia Wu.

“At a time when AI is changing how every industry works, we are building a system that helps workers get experience and grow into cyber roles across many fields, including beyond tech,” said Seeyew Mo, who leads Cyber Maryland.

Cyber Maryland will invest in high-impact initiatives like cyber and AI clinics—which provide cyber services to small businesses and other community organizations—as well as industry-informed K-12 and postsecondary programs. It will also strengthen partnerships among employers, educational institutions, and training providers to help workers gain the skills to meet employer demand and the needs of today’s economy.
