For Consumers - Architects

The profession of architecture is regulated in Maryland under the provisions of Business Occupations and Professions Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, Title 3, and the Code of Maryland Regulations, Title 9, Subtitle 21.

In accordance with Maryland Law, a person may not represent to the public, by use of a title, “Architect”, “Licensed Architect”, or “Registered Architect” without holding a current license in Maryland authorized to practice architecture in the State.

Before hiring or entering into a contract with a design professional, the Board of Architects strongly recommends verifying that the individual(s) or firm is currently licensed and in good standing. Furthermore, a person may not operate a business through which architecture is practiced unless the entity holds a permit issued by the Board.
